6 Tips on Where to Find Wholesale Merchandise to Sell

Planning to start your own retail shop but don’t know where to find the merchandise to sell? No worries! I’ve got you covered! Read on to get an idea on just where to look.

The internet is a great source of information for wholesalers that can possibly meet your merchandise requirements. Simply type in your browser’s search box for any wholesaler that is near you or one that ships merchandise to your place at low cost. We analyzed over 20+ wholesalers and manufacturers that provide customizable products online. You can read the entire post here, but if you just want the spoiler – US Imprints is one of the top providers of personalized sunglasses we found in our research.

Buying Groups

Check your local community if there are any buying groups that you can join or tap into that would provide you with wholesaler information. Take note that you don’t have to limit yourself to the local buying group, if there is any. You can also join online buying groups to help you out.

Trade Shows

Wholesalers always make it a point to join trade shows in the hopes of attracting more customers, which is why this is probably one of the best venues for you.

The number of participating wholesale companies gives you a chance to see their products up close and compare them with other commercially available merchandise.

Contact the manufacturer to see if they are willing to sell their products at wholesale prices even if you are just beginning your business. Take note of the allowed minimum order.

Some manufacturers only sell their products through distributors and they’ll be upfront about this. They, however, would willingly provide you with the contact information for the nearest distributor in your area.

A great source of wholesale merchandise; however, be sure that you do your due diligence. You don’t want to get blind-sided with some of the complications that may arise if you are having a product shipped from outside your country.

Closely linked to manufacturers, distributors do offer items at wholesale prices but with a bit of price addition since they also need to make a profit. If you only need a very small amount, you might want to contact a distributor instead of the manufacturer.

Here’s wishing you the best of luck in your search!

Do It Yourself Garden Hose Basket

In a previous post, I mentioned using a hose basket for a personalized gardener’s gift. Here’s how you can create your own.

Brand new garden hose – choose your preferred length

A big pack of zip ties – choose your color preference

Sharp pair of heavy duty scissors

To Make the Basket

Start with one end of the garden hose, preferably the blunt end. Bend it underneath itself then proceed to winding the rest of the hose around this end. Make sure that it is snugly fit and bent.

Attach zip ties around the initial base after tightly winding it twice. Position the zip ties so the loose ends will be inside the basket. About 4 zip ties strategically placed per round is great to keep the hose firmly in place.

After the initial two rounds, you’ll need to add zip ties per round. Continue winding until you achieve your desired circumference for the hose basket.

Begin winding the hose around the top of the outermost circle to begin building the sides of the basket. Add 4 strategically placed zip ties for every loop. Continue until you reach your desired basket height but leave at least one foot of the hose unwound to create the handle.

Beginning from the last zip tie, calculate where you want the other side of the handle to be attached. Bend the hose to face the other side of the basket exactly. You should have a large loop that would resemble a basket handle.

Secure the bottom of the hose along the other side of the basket with zip ties and continue along the rest of the handle. Make sure that the other end of the hose is securely attached to the handle with zip ties as well. Snip the excess zip ties using a sharp pair of heavy duty scissors.

You now have a hose basket that would be a perfect gift for any gardening enthusiast. You can even create one for your very own garden to neatly hold your gardening tools in just one place. Did you happen to notice how the zip ties also create a sort of pattern?

4 Do It Yourself Ideas for Personalized Gift Baskets

Personalized gifts have become quite popular for several years and it looks like they are here to stay. However, nothing says you care than gifting that special someone with a gift basket that contains all the good stuff he or she loves.

Are you having difficulty looking for a vendor that would have all the good stuff in just one basket? Why not try your hand out at creating your own?

Here are some ideas to help you get started.

Baker’s Basket

Instead of the usual basket, why not use an inexpensive mixing bowl as the basket? Fill it up with good stuff that the baker would love. This is also a great gift for kids who are interested in baking.

You can choose the contents, such as spatula, measuring spoons, cookie cutters, and so much more, depending on how advanced  a baker the recipient is.

Hose Basket

Definitely not your usual garden basket variety. You would be using a garden hose as the base material for the basket (check out my instructional blog on how to create one). Throw in some gardening tools and plant seed packets…and you’re all set! To add more charm to the hose basket, why not use a small potted plant as the centerpiece?

Cook’s Basket

Don’t leave the cook behind! Use a shiny steel strainer as the basket. Fill it up with one themed set of ingredients or a mix and match of spices and other small cooking utensils. You can also add in a printout of a family recipe that you are willing to share.

Art Basket

Dollar store finds such as caddy baskets and art supplies are great for this gift idea. Make it more creative by adding a cute apron and wash rags. For more advanced artists, you can fill it up with their preferred art medium such as oils and high-quality brushes.

Regardless of the occasion, these do it yourself gift baskets would be as personalized as you can get. What’s your idea for a perfect personalized gift basket?
